Taking Part


Teams

A Dragon Boat team in fancy dress

Team are comprised of up to 16 paddlers plus a drummer. Ideally each team should have at least 20 people, so that different people can race throughout the day.

Teams can be all male, all female, or mixed, and organisations can enter more than one team. The minimum age is 12 and no previous experience of dragon boat racing is required. All team members must be confident in cold water conditions, in light clothing, and in moving water.

Races

Teams will have a minimum of three races and the fastest teams will compete in a final. Races generally start around 10am and continue throughout the day until around 4pm, when there are the race finals and a presentation ceremony.

All equipment is provided by the race organisers - boats, paddles, life jackets etc., and the whole event is organised with safety in mind. Each team is given a full safety briefing and a short practice before the races start.

Charity Sponsorship

The aim of the day is to raise money for charity. All teams are encouraged to raise money for Rotary charities and their chosen charity.

Please note that entry fees go towards the cost of running the event; Rotary charities only benefit from sponsorship money raised on top of the entry fees.

All forms giving evidence of sponsorship money raised must be handed in at the Team Registration tent before your team's first race.

Entry Packages and Fees

A range of entry packages are available for charities, groups and organisations. Corporate sponsorship of the event is available on request.

£495 + additional sponsorship of £500 for Rotary charities to be paid by 26th August 2018 (equivalent to each person raising £25)

Entries

Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. No refunds will be given once an entry has been accepted. If the Festival or racing has to be cancelled due to conditions outside the control of the racing organisers every effort will be made to schedule an alternative date.

Parking

Parking spaces for teams are limited with a charge payable. Team members are encouraged to share transport.
