Dragon Boat Racing

A Dragon Boat team in fancy dress
Dragon Boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition, over 2000 years old, and is one of the world's most competitive water sports.

Dragon Boats are 40 foot long and decorated with a Chinese dragon head and tail. They need a crew of 16 rowers and a drummer to keep good rhythm and a fast speed. An experienced member of the event organisation crew steers the boat and ensures that everyone has a fun but safe time on the water.

A race is a 250 metre sprint along the river with up to 4 boats taking part in each heat. The aim is to achieve the fastest time, with the 4 fastest teams competing in the final to become this year's Champions.

The winning team is presented with medals and a trophy at the final prize giving ceremony.

Dragon Boat racing is a great way to raise money for your chosen charity by getting sponsorship, taking part, giving your time and importantly having fun! Even better - no previous experience or training is required!
